WBA supports the Youth Futures Pipeline Challenge charity mountain bike ride which was held from 6 – 10 May 2017.

With the event generating $73,000 for the Youth Future's Nest program, the WBA shows commitment to actively helping create a better society.

 The Cause

The funds raised through the Pipeline challenge in 2017 will be directed towards Youth Futures NEST program.

The NEST was developed in response to an identified gap in services for teenage mothers who risk losing custody of their baby to the government because they are homeless or are living in conditions unsuitable for raising a child.  The program aims to empower these young mothers to maintain custody of their baby and to develop skills that will help them break the cycle of disadvantage.

To give them hope for a better future, the NEST provides teenage mothers and their children with safe and secure single-dwelling accommodation for up to 18 months. During this time, mothers are supported to identify and address their underlying issues as well as any barriers associated with becoming a teenage parent that may be preventing them from reaching their potential.

Since the program was established in 2008, the NEST has received no government funding and has instead relied on various philanthropic bodies to continue its work.

The Event

It is fair to say that after five days in the saddle the teams rode home tired but victorious having completed the epic journey from Kalgoorlie. Anyone who says the terrain between Perth and Kalgoorlie was flat had not explored the area on bike, just ask any of the participants!
